Target maxi dress, Nordstrom cashmere scarf, Theory waist belt, vintage bag, Ray Ban clubmaster sunnies, Yochi gold cocktail ring
So last summer on this blog I wore a belted scarf... with nothing underneath it. On top, at least. You may or may not remember it, depending on how long you've read back on the blog. Link if interested: a bit less wearable. Risky-looking, but trust me, totally weather appropriate in 102 degree heat. I've lately been trying to take advantage of the perfect weather here before it gets to feel like a sauna outside, and this dress was incredibly boring on its own, so I figured I'd do a more wearable version of the scarf-as-top thing. I think it adds a lot of movement and depth that a long dress tends to naturally lack; not to mention another color layer, less weirdness of having a random belt on, etc. I had to be slightly more careful with my cabernet, but that seemed the only drawback.
Also there were tons of belted scarves on the FW10 runways, I was kind of surprised slash delighted... it was one of those things where you think you're being clever, then you see it on the runway and you have to furiously check past seasons to see if was really something you came up with on your own. I'm sure that I'm not the first person to belt a scarf, but I did recall it being the result of an experimental day in front of the mirror with a giant pile of clothes around me.
p.s. It. Is. Impossible. For a remotely tall person to find a maxi dress long enough. Go figure I'd find the one in the world at Target. I can't wear more than a flat shoe with it but that's fine. Wore silver gladiators today and it worked perfectly.
In case you were wondering about the odd title... well, even if you weren't, I'm still going to tell the story. I had a ridiculous run-in today with an uppity manager, who may have also been on uppers, at a restaurant where I requested a job application. First she sarcastically declared that she was impressed with my excitement (what was I supposed to do? There were like three tables in there, it was QUIET... run in and say "I'D LIKE A JOB PLEASE!!!!!!), but so awkwardly I didn't really know what to say... it was kind of like: Me: "I was wondering if you were taking applications for serving or hostessing?" Her: "Wow-I'm-really-impressed-with-your-excitement-in-getting-a-job-just-kidding" Me, confused: "What?" Her: "I-was-just-saying-you-seem-really-enthusiastic-about-this-job-just-kidding". So that was weird. THEN. When I asked if she had a pen so I could fill the application out, she told me NO and manically stated that "this-is-a-job!!... application." Not only did she have the inability to speak properly, she was acting like she did three lines of blow in the bathroom right before I came in. Plus she was a bitch. So my sister and I decided to stay and have a late lunch. I tipped our server Laurena (who was not a bitch, was very nice actually) thirty-two percent and wrote on the ticket "That rude woman should not be wearing unflattering denim at work. Its unprofessional." Hopefully Laurena will agree with me, have a laugh, and enjoy the big tip.

Wow, Katie - you look great! Very chic and totally wearable. It's like you think it's a cool dress - then but no! it's a scarf! - total fake-out:-)
You've also lost a lot of weight...wow. Was it because of the medication you were on? I know it makes me sound shallow but you could pass for a fashion model now - I'm sure you hear that alot.:-) Not that you weren't gorgeous before - because you're definitely pretty at any size...just even more high-fashion-looking (sorry; sounds clumsy) now.
